Detect Betting Traps.
Fade the Public.

Identify where soft books diverge from sharp books like Pinnacle. Spot key number traps, inflated totals, and juice discrepancies before they cost you.

How trap detection works

Sharp books move first. We catch when soft books don't follow.

Monitor Sharp Books

We track Pinnacle and other sharp books in real-time. When they move, we know sharp money has spoken.

Detect Divergence

When DraftKings, FanDuel, and other soft books don't move with sharps, we flag it as a potential trap.

Alert & Advise

Get instant alerts with clear action recommendations: FADE the public side or LEAN with the sharps.

Trap Methodology

Types of traps we detect

Each trap type signals a different kind of sharp vs public divergence

3

Key Number Traps

In football, 3 and 7 are critical margins (field goal, touchdown). When soft books hang on -3 while Pinnacle has moved to -2.5, they're banking on public money. Sharp bettors fade these aggressively.

Example: High Severity
Soft: BAL -3 → Sharp: BAL -2.5

Inflated Totals

Public loves overs—exciting games mean more points. Soft books inflate totals to attract this action. When they're 2+ points higher than sharp books, the under often holds value.

Example: Medium Severity
Soft: O/U 228.5 → Sharp: O/U 226.5

Juice Divergence

Same line, different juice. When soft books charge -145 on a favorite while Pinnacle has -132, they're taxing public money. The 13¢ difference signals where the smart money sits.

Example: LEAN Signal
Soft: NYY ML -145 → Sharp: NYY ML -132

Expert Insight
"Soft books exist to take money from recreational bettors. They shade lines, inflate totals, and hang on key numbers because they know the public doesn't care. Our trap detector exposes when they're doing it most aggressively—and that's when contrarian value is highest."

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the Trap Detector

A betting trap occurs when soft books (DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM) maintain lines that diverge from sharp books (Pinnacle). This typically happens because public bettors are piling onto one side, and the soft books don't need to move because they're comfortable with their liability. Sharp bettors use this divergence as a signal to bet the opposite side.

In NFL and college football, games frequently end with margins of 3 (field goal) or 7 (touchdown). When soft books hang on these key numbers while sharp books have moved off, it's a strong signal that sharp money disagrees with the public. The number 3 is especially crucial—about 15% of NFL games land on exactly 3.

FADE means to bet against. When we recommend "FADE" on a selection, it means the trap analysis suggests betting the opposite side. For example, if "BAL -3" shows as a trap with a FADE recommendation, the analysis suggests considering Kansas City +3 instead.

Our trap detector runs continuously, scanning all upcoming events every few minutes. When divergence is detected, alerts are generated in real-time so you can act before the soft books adjust their lines.
